Tribute to Lucy

I am sure most of you will be aware by now that Lucy Davies (class of 2013 leaver) passed away on Friday 25th July 2014 at 8.50am.

It is an understatement to say that we are all shocked and saddened by this unexpected tragedy.

Lucy joined our school family as a nursery pupil in September 2005 and I was her first schoolteacher. She was a beautiful, bright child and my lasting memory of her was when she proudly showed off her magnificent rocking horse made (or refurbished) by her grandfather. Lucy continued to be a happy child throughout her time at St Patrick’s, with a particular talent for playing school and imitating her current teacher. Her confident, caring personality developed with each year. She also had a determination to succeed and improve which became even more evident during her illness in years 5 & 6. Her friends, classmates and teachers were amazed at the way she approached every obstacle, never admitting defeat.

I know this continued during her time in year 7 at Saint John Fisher. She inspired everyone with her optimism and strength of character.

Lucy was and always will be the centre of her parents’ world and my heartfelt condolences go out to them at this extremely sad time. Parents among us cannot even begin to imagine what they are going through and will go through in the future.

I have always found that doing something; however small, can help us to survive when it seems impossible to continue. To that end I would like to design and build a prayer garden at St Patrick’s dedicated to Lucy and her life. I hope Chris and Suzanne will be able to help and advise us in this endeavour and it will in some small way ease their irreplaceable loss.
