By the end of EYFS we expect our children at Saint Patrick's to have built up the appropriate skills and knowledge to be able to consistently:
*safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function independently
and
*share their creations, explaining the process they have used with confidence
We also expect our children to make use of props and materials when role playing characters in narratives and stories.
Take a look at our learning and development throughout EYFS to see the journey
from our earliest starting points to achieving the ELG:
We learn about ourselves and look closely at the features of our face in a mirror.
We paint a self-portrait.
ELG: Creating with Materials
Safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.
Share their creations, explaining the process they have used.
We paint poppies to help us think about 'Remembrance Day'.
We use different collage materials to make poppies with different textures.
In Reception, we learn how to use watercolour to add colour to our paintings.

We paint animals we know we would see if we were to take a trip to the zoo.
We explore the movement of zoo animals by carefully cutting out animal shapes,
joining them together with split pins.
We use contruction materials to build cages of all shapes and sizes. We build cages for the animals at the zoo as well as for if the animals were exported. We considering the height, length and weight of individual animals and think critically about which materials would be the best.
