What if my child is going to be absent from school?

Here at St. Patrick's we strive to ensure all children are in school as much as possible.

As a parent/carer of a child on roll at our school, you MUST contact school's office staff either by telephone (01942 244361) or by email enquiries@admin.saintpatricks.wigan.sch.uk to inform us of the absence of your child and the reason for this absence as soon as you possibly can that day but no later than 9:00am.

Failure to do so will result in a telephone call, from school, from 9:30am onwards.

We have a duty of care to ensure all children are accounted for each day.

If we do not get a response, a home visit may take place to establish the whereabouts of the child.

It is important for school to have current and accurate home and mobile telephone numbers.

Please ensure school have these details at the start of the academic year and please act quickly to inform us of any changes that are made throughout the year.

What is an 'Authorised Absence'?

These are absences where there are genuine reasons for a child being absent from school. In most cases, this will be for an illness which would mean that attending school would make that illness worse or that it would be passed on to other children.

What is an 'Unauthorised Absence'?

These are absences where there is no justifiable reason as to why a child is absent from school.
