Spring 2 Topic - Rivers

RE

We will start the term by continuing with the topic 'Memorial Sacrifice'. In this topic we will look at Passover in exodus, the institution of the Eucharist at the last supper, the Eucharist as a memorial sacrifice of Jesus, the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, proclaiming the mystery of faith and Sacrifice in daily life.

We will begin the next topic before half term- 'Sacrifice'. We will share stories and look at ~ the cost of giving, Lent – the opportunity to grow spiritually, the betrayal of Jesus by Judas, the arrest of Jesus, the sacrifice of Jesus, Good Friday – The crucifixion and Easter Sunday. This topic will be continued after half term.

Cross-Curricular

Our second topic of Spring is a history topic about The Industrial Revolution. In this topic we will be looking at what happened during the Industrial Revolution, inventions and machines and the positive and negative effects. We will also visit the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry.

Science

Our Science topic this half term is 'Magnetism'. In this topic we will~  look at how magnets are used in everyday life, predict whether two magnets will attract or repel and work out the links between magnets and the North and South Pole.

Art

Ourart topic is 'printing and design'. We will be designing wallpaper from the 19th Century that replicates designs from the Industrial Revolution. We will design a print on the computer using 2simple software and then use this design to create and use our own printing blocks.

Music

In music this half term we will be looking at 'Standard Notation'. Children will gain an understanding of musical symbols and create their own composition.

Computing

Our first computing topic is 'Algorithms and Programs'. We will be using the software 'Scratch' to design and produce our own computer programmes.

PE

The focus of the first half terms PE is 'Gymnastics'. We will be following sets of rules to produce our own sequences, developing changing speeds and direction, as well as improving our accuracy in creating shapes and controlled actions- both on the floor and apparatus.

Maths

We will begin the year by focusing of place value, mental addition and subject strategies, written addition and subtraction strategies, shape and mental multiplication and division.

Writing (including SPAG)

Our first focus in writing is imaginative stories using the book 'The Hole' by Oyvind Torseter. We will then look at recount texts using 'Little Mouse's big book of Fears' by Emily Gravett as a stimulus. Through this we will focus our SPAG on nouns, verbs, adverbs and the use of an apostrophe for possession.

Reading

We will begin the year by sharing a book together within each group. We will then focus our guided reading sessions around this book. Children will each choose their own accelerated reading book to be read both in school and at home
