Reading in Year 3

Love Theme Day

On February 14th 2020, the children took part in a Love Theme workshop where they explored a variety of poetry styles. They discussed common features of poetry like rhyme-schemes, metaphors, similes etc. They then thought about someone who is very important to them and shared their reasons for why they love them so much. The children discussed people like their mum, dad, siblings, grandparents, friends and many more. The children then used what they had discussed as inspiration to write a poem about someone they love. The children were able to take these poems home to share with their loved ones.

World Book Day 2020

To celebrate World Book Day, the children were able to come to school dressed as their favourite fictional character and share the reasons why it is their favourite. Throughout the day, the year 3 and 4 children completed activities based around a Harry Potter theme as we had been reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone throughout the term. The children worked together to create a Harry Potter themed display around our unit library area. The children wrote letters and postcards home as if they were a student in their first year at Hogwarts, they wrote newspaper articles that explained the strange happenings that had been going on in Privet Drive and they also created their own house badges and explained what characteristics people would need to be in their house.
