Geography in the Nursery

In Nursery the children explore 'The World' and 'People and Communities'. They will comment and ask questions about aspects of their familiar world such as the place where they live or the natural world. The children will talk about some of the things they have observed such as plants, animals, natural and found objects. They will develop an understanding of growth, decay and changes over time and will be encouraged to show care and concern for living things and the environment.

The children will be encouraged to show interest in the lives of people who are familiar to them. They will remember and talk about significant events in their own experience. They will recognise and describe special times or events for family or friends. The children will also be encoraged to show interest in different occupations and ways of life. The children will become to know some of the things that make them unique, and can talk about some of the similarities and differences in relation to friends or family.
