Autumn 2

RE

We will begin the half term by continuing with the topic  'Called'. We will share stories and look at ~ The Call of David and Samuel, The Call of the Apostles, The Sacrament of Confirmation and The Baptismal Promises. This topic will be continued after half term.

The next RE topic is 'Gift'. Within this topic children will look at and explore gifts of love, the liturgical season of Advent- including the 'coming' of Jesus as the Messiah.

Cross-Curricular

In Autumn 2 the Y4 topic is 'CSI'. This is a geography based topic with a particular focus on human and physical features in the local area. The work will be linked to solving a 'crime' that has occured on school grounds- an animal who has made a mess on our playground.

Science

The next topic in Science is 'Living things and their habitats'. In this topic we will cover ~habitats, classification, minibeasts, classification keys, food chains and webs and effects of change.

D&T

In out first D&T topic we will be researching, designing and making a humane fox trap. Children will be using wood with the focus on appropriate joints.

Music

This half term we will be focusing on singing. We will look at pitch, tone and effect. The songs we sing will be included in our christmas performance.

Computing

Our first computing topic is 'Spreadsheet and Databases'. We will be using the software to input data and create graphs.

PE

The focus of the second half terms PE is 'Dance'. We will be using James Bond as a stimulus for dance moves and actions.

Later in the term, songs and dancing will link to the Christmas Performance.

Maths

The second half term will have a focus on time, handling data and written methods of multiplication, division and subtraction. We also begin to look at fractions.

Writing (including SPAG)

This half term will begin with poetry, in particular list and kenning poems. We will then use 'Mr Stink' and 'Billionaire Boy' by David Walliams to explore stories with humour. Finally, we look at and write playscripts, linked to the Christmas Performance. 

Reading

Guided reading and independent comprehension this half term will support our work in writing so we will read a range of poems, playscripts and humorous stories. Children will also continue to read their own accelerated reading book, both in school and at home.
